The workshop takes place on Wednesday 15 January 2020 (6-8pm) at The Maypole Theatre and Cafe Bar on Brook Street in Derby. There is no charge to take part.

At the workshop, Lauren will create a safe space for you to express yourself freely, share what theatre and stories mean to you, and take part in creative activities that spark off storytelling.

By the end of the workshop, you will have your own short story in the form of a piece of writing or performance to keep or share.

BSL interpretation at workshop (15 Jan) and scratch (22 Jan)You will have the opportunity to share your story in front of a supportive audience before Lauren's scratch performance of Othello's Sister at The Maypole on Friday 22 January at 7.30pm (click here for more details). Sharing your story at the scratch performance is not compulsory.

Both the workshop and the scratch performance are BSL-interpreted.

"This could be through telling a story, writing a poem or speech, performing a scene, singing a song or any other creative way. We have so many untold stories to tell.

"And it's great to try out Othello's Sister in the city where it all began - from an exciting conversation at Departure Lounge Festival in Derby Theatre a few years ago. I'm really looking forward to performing the scratch show at The Maypole as well as running the workshop."

"There's no charge to take part in the workshop and there is no booking - just turn up. I will be delighted to meet you."

Donna Briscoe-Greene, Artistic Director of The Maypole Theatre and Cafe Bar, said: "To say I'm excited by Lauren's workshop and scratch show is an understatement - this will be the first time we have welcomed a solo Black British female artist to workshop and perform at The Maypole Theatre.

"We gain so much more confidence amongst our peers. I can't wait to see what stories emerge from the workshop, and to experience the scratch of Othello's Sister. Thank you to 1623 for the groundbreaking opportunity."

The workshop is on Wednesday 15 January (6-8pm, free entry) and the scratch performance is on Wednesday 22 January (7.30-9pm, £5 per person).

Both are BSL-interpreted, and take place at The Maypole Theatre and Cafe Bar, 42 Brook Street, Derby DE1 3PH.
