Shakespeare Night is an exciting new series of public workshops run by award-winning 1623 theatre company, which is all about seeing Shakespeare differently to inspire, surprise and affect people.

Part of 1623's participation programme, Shakespeare Night is monthly and takes place at Derby Theatre, where you're invited to take part in activities inspired by Shakespeare's plays.

"Unconventional, unpredictable and fun, Shakespeare Night is for everyone, from absolute beginners to seasoned Shakespeareans, from actors and students to designers and theatre-goers, from young people and families to amateur theatre-makers; all are welcome to take part."

The first workshop will explore disguise and identity in Shakespeare's comedy Twelfth Night through fun dressing-up games while playing around with the script. It will take place on Friday 23 January at 7.30-9.30pm. Click here for more details.

Each month, Shakespeare Night participants will be given a free information booklet on the play explored that month. They will also have the opportunity to borrow books, DVDs and audio from the 1623 collection of more than 500 Shakespeare and related resources, which won't be launched officially and open to the general public until Derby Book Festival in June.
